Spring Programs
FARMER'S MARKET
The community center is committed to healthy living through its weekly farmers market. Local farmers will have an opportunity sell their products in the community center's parking lot. Every Sunday from March through August from 7 am until 1 pm.
Vendors are asked to pay a $10 fee each time they participate in the market.
Staff facilitating this event will be the Marketing/Events Specialist and two or three seasonal volunteers. The volunteers will help with the coordination of setup and guiding vendors to their weekly location.
Equipment required for this event: tables and reserved spots in the community center's parking lot.
PLANT THE GARDEN
Each year the community center is excited about the chance to grow a garden once again. In the last weekend of April all community members are welcome to participate in the preparation of the roof top garden for planting. This area of the Community Center helps teach children and adults valuable lessons in gardening, healthy dieting, and sustainable gardening. The roof top garden will be maintained by the Master Gardner as well as individual plot owners. This unique location helps show the growth cycle of plants and vegetables from seedling to full maturity.
The roof top garden will be headed by the Master Gardner and the Sustainability Coordinator along with a handful of volunteers.
Plots are for sale each year for $25 for a 20 x 25 ft or $30 for a 20 x 30 ft.
5K RUN
This annual event hosted by the Community Center will help raise funds for the community. It alternates between a traditional run and a mud run. Traditional runs will be held on even number years while the mud run will be held on odd numbered years.
The 5K Run is coordinated by the Marketing/Events Specialist and the Volunteer Coordinator. At least 10 volunteers are needed to help direct runners, offer free water bottles, and clean up once the run is over. Huntsville EMT will be standing by in case of emergencies.
The 5K traditional run follows a sectioned off path throughout Huntsville while the Mud Run course changes with each run. Both runs start and end at the Community Center. Each runner must sign a liability waiver and pay a $20 which includes a t-shirt.
